This painting takes after my another original painting of the same name in which I have painted men – the dhakis (the drummers) and women dancing. That painting takes its pride of place in the famous restaurant Chourangi in London which celebrates Kolkata cuisine.
The attached painting Dhaak Dhunuchi – II celebrates feminine energy and has been part of a prestigious international curation in Paris, selected from over 12000 artworks across165 countries, celebrating depth of human emotions.
This painting captures the vibrant spirit of Durga Pujo — a celebration deeply rooted in Bengali culture and now honoured with UNESCO Heritage status. It reflects the worship of feminine divinity and the triumph of good over evil, embodied in a moment of divine festivity.
Drawn to strong lines, bold colours, and semi-geometric forms, I composed this piece using a palette of red, teal, white, and gold. Through spatula textures and confident brushstrokes, I’ve aimed to convey the blissful energy, rhythm, and cultural essence of this grand socio-religious celebration.
